ISHAN FT GEMMA GRIFFITHS: One Call Away- Review

There is that one track that reminds you why you do what you do. Why do you go through the stress of giving your 2 cents on a piece of music, why put your eardrums under the pressure of different harmonies and sometimes lack thereof. Why put your radio on full blast and test out every possible ounce of wattage and milk out the very goodness that our local industry has in abundance. All I can say is that Ishan feat Gemma One Call Away is that reason.

Having listened to Ishan eversince Kure it’s hard for any fan to not compare his future endeavours with that monster of a hit. I had decided to do a review of Maidei ,another great jam but then as I was scrolling on the man’s youtube channel I came across his Bhundu Pop/Sounds From the Jungle and got hooked to the melodies on offer. One Call Away is just special. The guitar intro, the adlib over the opening sequence, the afro-pop beat all capture in the first 18 seconds what most fail to in full length albums. By the 27th minute Ishan has asked to be let in 3 times one of which in Shona to empasise the desperation he has to communicate with his love interest. The rest is as they say history but history has never sounded so good.

Gemma Griffiths also explodes onto the track with her sweet voice and the delicious falsetto she produces at the end of the second verse bridge showcases her vocal talent to the maximum. Its a really well worked piece of magic which does justice to these incredible artists and like I said there just seems to be something special going on with Ishan. The man is on the verge of explosion and going through his catalogue you can’t help but admire the consistency in quality.
